Let’s Talk About Working in the Heat

It is that time of year when we can reach high temperatures making working outside a potential hazard. When working in temperatures like +28°C precautions need to be taken to avoid risk of heat stroke, severe sunburn, and any other hazards, because safety comes first!

Be sure to check the weather before leaving the house in the morning so you can wear the appropriate clothing as well as have your vehicle prepared.

Make sure you are taking breaks from the heat, whether that is a shady spot under trees or in the vehicle with A/C, as long as you are able to cool off and no longer be in the direct sunlight.

Water! Water! Water! Make sure you have plenty of it because dehydration is no joke. Pack more than enough water for your day and drink more than you usually do.

Wear sunscreen and protection from the sunlight while outside. If a sun burn is severe enough a trip to the hospital may be required.

Remember heat stroke can be unnoticeable to the person suffering from it so here are some key warning signs to look for, for yourself and your coworkers;

Severe fatigue, nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, and sometimes sweating may or may not be a symptom. If you or your coworker are disorientated / confused, have unaccountable irritability, and/or flu like symptoms be sure to move to a cool location and seek medical attention asap!

Please be safe while working in the heat.
